I Sassi di Matera, sono delle caverne scavate nella roccia abitate fin negli anni ’50 da coloro che con i loro animali vivevano un’esistenza estremamente povera in un’economia di sussistenza. L’approvvigionamento dell’acqua veniva fatta tramite un sistema di canali in cui l’acqua piovana colava dentro delle cisterne anch’esse scavate nella roccia.
